Facelift surgery, clinically known as rhytidectomy, is a procedure used to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles and other telltale signs of aging, with the goal of improving the overall appearance of the face and jaw. Facelift surgery can help to reverse the harmful effects of time, stress, and exposure to the elements.
Facelifting is a complex procedure that requires extensive knowledge of facial anatomy, specific surgical technique skills, and a well-developed eye for esthetic details. This esthetic procedure reduces saggy skin or skin folds in the cheeks and mandible areas and other changes in the shape of the face that occur with age, in order to give a younger look.
The facelift operation is individualized according to the patient’s needs. During the consultation, Dr. Ioana Dragoicea will examine the bone structure, facial shape, fat distribution and skin quality to determine the best option for the facelift intervention.
To perform this procedure, a facial plastic surgeon will lift and tighten the underlying muscles of the face to create more aesthetically pleasing contours appearance and rejuvenate the facial structure. Then he or she will remove excess pockets of fat and skin that can contribute to an aged, tired appearance.
Mini facelift
This is a less invasive technique, which allows the plastic surgeon to reposition deep facial tissues, through shorter incisions, usually located along the hairline, above each ear and/or in the natural folds around the ear. Through these incisions, the structural tissues around the cheeks are lifted in order to correct and refine the jawline.
The mini facelift helps to improve signs of aging before they become too pronounced and thus delays the need for more complex surgery.
The intervention may be done with both local and general anesthesia, depending on each case.
Standard facelift
,,Traditional’’ facelift has more dramatic results than the mini facelift as it tackles better the signs of moderate to advanced aging in the face and neck areas. The procedure starts with incisions in the temples area, on the hair line, continues down and around the ears and ends behind the ears in the lower scalp.
What face changes can be improved with the facelift?
Postoperative hospitalization is recommended for 1-2 days.
Recovery and removal from the activity of the patient is around 10-14 days.
Postoperative scars are easily noticeable for the first 1-3 months, but disappear almost entirely within a range of 6 to 9 months.
The facelift, like any esthetic surgery, comes with factors that may present a significant risk or can lead to unfavorable results:
Facelift gives a younger look to your face and neck, but it’s worth noting that the results are not permanent. With age, the skin of the face may start falling again. The results of a facelift generally last 10 years.
