Botulinum toxin treatment

Botulinum toxin treatment is the most popular treatment against wrinkles and the most important in the category of non-surgical procedures. This shows the increased interest of patients in achieving a more youthful, relaxed look.

What is botulinum toxin and where it is used

Botulinum toxin is obtained from a purified protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium Botulinicum. This popular treatment is a non-invasive procedure used for the remission of obvious signs of skin aging. This is achieved by limiting muscle activity at the mymic muscles level, which cause expression wrinkles.

Most of those interested in this therapy express concern about the face’s “frozen” look after this treatment. We must emphasize that a natural aspect can be achieved by using appropriate doses and by qualified staff providing this treatment.

The botoxin can be used for the treatment of multiple wrinkles at face level, including:

Ø forehead

Ø glabellar region (frowning wrinkles)

Ø periocular wrinkles (“goose’s foot”)

Ø platysma bands

The botoxin can also be used for treating:

Ø axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive sweat treatment)

Ø bruxism

Ø blepharospasm

Ø migraines caused by muscle tensions (hypertonic)

How does the treatment work

Before the actual procedure we will make the evaluation of mymic muscle movements at the face level to determine precisely the injection sites but also the type of facial mimics (normokinetic, hyperkinetic, hypokinetic).

Then we inject into the designated sites using a very fine needle.

Since the injection pain is minimal, the use of local anesthetics is not recommended. However, in the case of patients who are particularly sensitive to pain, an anesthetic cream or ice may be used to remove any discomfort.

The procedure can take between 10 and 15 minutes.

There is no recovery time, the patient can return to normal activities immediately after the procedure. This treatment can be done, for example, during lunch break. The patient is advised not to traumatize the injected area immediately after the procedure and not to lie down horizontally for several hours after treatment.

How long for the results to become visible?

The results of this treatment start to be observed approximately 3-5 days and the maximum effect is obtained at 10-14 days.

How long for the results to disappear?

To maintain the results, it is recommended to repeat the procedure approximately every 4-6 months.

If the botulinum toxin treatment is not continued, the wrinkles will return to their original appearance.

Side effects

Sometimes small ecchymosis (bruises) may occur at the injection site. Other adverse reactions may be pain or slight inflammation at the injection site.
