The upper and lower eyelids are lifted and loose or excess skin and fat tissue are removed from the eye area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How does it work?<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before the procedures, an dermatologist will review the patient\u2019s medical history and outcomes of the procedure. The doctor also will test the patient\u2019s vision and his\/her ability to produce tears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prior to the procedure, patients should:<br>\u2013 Avoid smoking.<br>\u2013 Avoid medications, food and beverages indicated by the doctor.<br>\u2013 Arrange for transportation home following the procedure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Upper eyelid excess skin and fat can create a heavy looking eyelid, aged appearance, puffiness, and sometimes block the upper field of vision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Upper blepharoplasty<\/strong>&nbsp;is performed to remove excess skin and fat and can improve the field of vision.<br><strong>Double eyelid surgery<\/strong>, also called Asian eyelid surgery, is performed to create or enhance an upper eyelid crease. This type of surgery is performed on Asian people to \u201cwesternize\u201d the appearance of the eyelid.<br><strong>Lower blepharoplasty<\/strong>&nbsp;can be performed to remove excess skin and improve the contour of the eyelid by adding or removing fat. Sometimes tightening the eyelid is needed to correct sagging, while laser skin resurfacing can be used to improve wrinkles and skin texture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ideal candidates<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ideal candidates are non-smoking, physically and psychologically healthy. The majority of patients are over 35 years of age, but there are cases where younger patients demand this intervention (especially in the case of inherited dark circles).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Contraindications<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Patients with serious ocular disorders such as glaucoma or retina detachment do not qualify for this type of intervention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Post-surgery recovery<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Immediately after<\/strong>\u00a0surgery, patients can have the feeling of tension and periocular mild discomfort; common painkillers will be used to provide relief<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sleep with your head elevated<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Intermittent local cold applications<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the\u00a0<strong>first 48 hours,<\/strong>\u00a0bruising and swelling may occur in the periocular area<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stitches will be removed\u00a0<strong>6-7 days<\/strong>\u00a0after surgery<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bruising can persist for up to\u00a0<strong>1-2 weeks<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Inflammation may persist, depending on the particularities of each individual, from\u00a0<strong>one to several weeks<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The patient can return to normal activities in about\u00a0<strong>7-10 days<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is recommended wearing sunglasses\u00a0<strong>2 weeks<\/strong>\u00a0post-surgery<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The outcome of these procedures will be fully appreciated&nbsp;<strong>a few months<\/strong>&nbsp;postoperatively.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is blepharoplasty?
